The 1979 Ranchero GT was the last year of the 7th Generation of the Ford Ranchero. Guess that goes to show – all good things come to an end. And unless Ford resurrects the marque there will be no more. A decent Ranchero is exceedingly rare. The popular UTE that saw its beginning on the shores of Australia is relegated to history. But for lovingly restored vintage versions of the venerable pickup car there simply are no more. Long a common sight at the beach filled with surf boards the truck is now rusting away only a memory. You who love these rides need to have a reminder of them! Something that will bring back that youthful zeal and driving style. Get a print! Wear the T-Shirt! 1979 Ranchero GT 7th Generation 1977-1979
You know the header above reads like a tombstone. Forgive me for coming across a bit sad. But I am lamenting that there just won’t be anymore of these rides. When Torino production ended after 1976 some changes had to be made to the venerable Ranchero. The 1977 Ranchero grew once more. Its base became the Ford LTD II. They called it a mid-sized car. Today we’d call it an aircraft-carrier! – Haa!!
Don’t Get Me Wrong!
Don’t take my aircraft-carrier the wrong way! I love the huge Rancheros. Why the Internationally Recognized Opinionist Herself – JuJuni – and Ol’ Chas own and drive a ’77 Ranchero GT! – The IRO says of the ride, “It’s Roomy!” She really puts it in the nutshell! The 7th Generation of Ranchero ran from 1977-1979. And for the life of me I cannot readily tell a ’77 from a 1979 Ranchero GT. – So let’s watch this Video Review of a Seventh Gen Ranchero. Instead of Walk-About it’s a Walk-Around! Video Source: Saabkyle04
1979 Ranchero GT and Reality!
In the Fullness of Time Rancheros not only grew larger. They grew more Luxurious! As evidenced by that ’79 Ranchero GT Brougham we saw in the video. Mighty Nice! – So! – What happened to Ranchero? Why’d Ford stop making them? – Well – With Federal Government intervention in Business and Manufacturing – regulation showed Ford another path! Big cars carried giant emissions and milage standards. Margins were shrinking as rides grew in size. – But! – Not so with Pickup Trucks! – Thus Ford and other makers shifted manufacturing to smaller cars and bigger trucks. Trucks were not as heavily regulated as the more numerous cars. ~;0)
Ranchero the Pickup built on a Car Chassis
The Pickup Car as Ford called the Rancheros was just that. It was a pickup of sorts built on a car chassis. Usually it was that of a station 0r estate wagon. And an Estate Wagon can carry almost as much weight as a half-ton pickup. What’s the difference between a station wagon and an estate wagon? – Not Much! – Station Wagons are American! Estates are wagons in lands that did not break with Britton. – Basically the world’s a funny place! – But! – No Room for That Here! – Haaaz!
Now for What Replaced the Ranchero!
Oh yes! – There was a brilliant replacement at the end of Ranchero. It wasn’t a Pickup-Car. But a downsized pickup truck! Got a video here for you that tells the story of the New Ford Courier! Was it Ugly? Decidedly so! Did it get better miles-per-gallon than a 400cid Ranchero? – Yeah! – Decidedly So! But at the cost of a Stylin’ Ride! – Maybe So – Video Source: ashley schooneman
Hands Up! – Who’s Owned a Little Pickup?
Yeah! – Let’s have a Show-of-Hands all those who’ve had any maker’s little pickup truck! – Now – How many’s had a Ranchero! – Wait! – I’m still counting! – Haa! And how many know that Pickup Trucks outsell cars? Crazy I know – But! – Ford Pickups outsells them all. Completely Mad! – But! – Pickups do the work that Cars just won’t do! However – for a time there was a Pickup-Car that hauled your stuff. And it had Style! There are no more Rancheros being made in the U.S. and yet the Pickup Truck has morphed into a Luxury Monster with four-doors and more downright Style than most cars on the road as of this writing! ~;0)

Guess Anger Sells Trucks!
The Guy talks Anger whilst describing that Raptor Pickup! Whatta Monster! But would you haul something in it? I don’t know! This truck costs as much as the home addition we recently did here at the VivaChas Clubhouse! – Woof! Really – Does this Pickup have Style or is it Over-Kill!! Luxury Pickups – Gotta Love ’em! Not sure what’s happened to humility. Guessing the New Road-Rage will be driving over that guy that cuts you off at the Round-About! – Haaaz!
Just One Thing More
The Ford Ranchero lived from 1957 to 1979. We’ve seen the Monsters that have over-grown the marque. They’re great! – That is if you’re Alexander the Great! – Haa! – Ah don’t get me wrong. I like the Raptors. Don’t know if it’s the name or the truck though that works me up! Here’s what I know. All the makers are building Monster-Trucks now. We’re buying Monster-Houses! We’re eating Monster-Meals – Our Kids are Little-Monsters!! – – – I want to show you another kind of Monster. It’s what the originators of Pickup-Cars are making right now! Maybe if we behave and clean our plates at dinnies we can get something truly stylish like the Little Bewdy in this our last Video! – Till Then G’onusall! ~;0) VivaChas!
