This 1937 Cord Coffin Nose Speedster Concours on Toast is the Breakfast of Champions! – But – What is Concours anyway? Glad you asked! I’m told that a concours is an exhibition of True Classic Rides. They usually have a parade of these vintage cars. And naturally Trophies and Bragging Rights go to the Class Winners!

Okay Fine but What is a True Classic Car?

That is the question! Usually a Classic Car has to be over 20 years old. But! There are plenty of rides older than twenty or twenty-five years old that a far from classic! Often rides that are more than say, 40 or more years old are considered antiques. That’s right! Cars are different than furniture, watches, letter-openers and such!

But Wait! Where’s the Cord Coffin Nose Fit In!

What then would be a vintage ride? California and the East Coast command that cars built in the Twenties – that’s the 1920s – are Vintage. Though there are some nebulous pundits that push that figure out to nearly the Forties. And let’s not even get into Historical Vehicles! I’m mean isn’t one of Elvis’s many Cadillacs – Historical?

Who Are You? What Did You Do to the Car Guy Standing there a Minute Ago?

It’s a mad toss-up in my book! Basically no precise definition exists but for the guidelines set forth by dozens of sanctioning bodies and clubs. I’m mean the definition varies around this big blue ball we live on! One common thread in the definitive Classic Car is the car is old and it’s collectable and worthy of preservation. But! If it’s restored then it doesn’t usually qualify as Concours!

Ack!! What’s with all the Rules?

Arguably, the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance is the big deal in concours events. Makes sense! There’s lots of money there. And money makes the world go round. My recommendation is, if you’re going to a Concours event wear a sporty blazer with a medallion embroidered on the front pocket and most folks will leave you alone! But if you want to make some new mates where the T-Shirt on the right under the blazer! – Haa!

Anyway Back to the 1937 Cord Coffin Nose!

Yeah – Anyway VivaChas has worked up some nice pictures, T-shirts and other swag of this 1937 Cord Coffin Nose. Coffin Nose? Yeah! The front end looks like the nose of the ride was inspired by a Coffin. Okay! All bets are off!
